This definitely isn't the best book by this author. The first 123 pages were not very good. However after that the writing was more like the William W. Johnstone we all love. The nephew of Mr. Johnstone is a good writer but many of the books that he has published have waaaay too much description. One example is that I skipped a little over 2 pages, then, out of curiosity I went back & read them. There was nothing other than description of the jungle, the bugs & the snakes with a little about the water. It was terrible!! After that I skipped a lot until getting past that first 123 pages. When the story got around to Steve Ireland it turned into a good read. I have read other books with Kilroy & Ireland & they were good but in this book, Kilroy could have been left out completely until toward the end where he showed up again for a while. I was disappointed in this book because even J.A. Johnstone has done much better in most instances. Of course I won't quit reading the book s by him because he is the closest we have to W.W. Johnstone since he died. We lost a very good writer when he left this world. Target Response is an action thriller featuring characters from a secret military unit of assassins (called the "Dog Team"), but this time someone is AFTER them. Overall I liked it and will buy other "Dog Team" books like:Â Revenge of The Dog Team.But I felt the author kinda rushed the ending. The book was split in 3 parts: Part I dealt with Major Kilroy: his background,the attempt on his life, his run thru the swwamp and several good battles, and this went for several chapters, and then Part II dealt with another character (Cpt Ireland) and how he was attacked and his battle with the bad guys, and this covered another several chapters. These two parts I enjoyed. The third part dealt with Major Kilroy & Capt Ireland getting together to bring down the villians. But by this time the book was almost over. All the detail that went into the first 65% or so of the book was missing in the last third. Part III was also reduced because it turns out the main story only takes up 84% of the book, with the last 16% dealing with a preview. In the product description I did not see any mention of a preview, and certainly not a preview taking up 16% of the overall book. So parts I & II took up to about 66% of the book overall, and Part III was actually under 20% of the overall story. That is why it felted rushed.Still: lots of tough guy & shoot'em up action!
